Something in a game…

Filed under: Uncategorized — stevemryan @ 5:10 pm

I enjoy playing APBA Baseball. Lately, I’ve been playing 8 team 1-&-Done tournaments and using different teams from across the history of baseball, but more specifically, teams eligible for the APBA Convention Tournament. I pick teams, play the seven games to declare a winner, then select seven more teams and allow the winner to play in another tourney.

This works well for my short attention span. I have been scoring the games using BallScore (From ballstat.com for free) and it goes fairly quickly with my Surface. My wife calls it my geek hobby, but there are worse things.

I have played several tourneys and sometimes the favored teams win and sometimes they don’t. That is why we roll the games. I could play tourneys using best-of series and the better teams would most likely win more but not necessarily. I manage both teams and sometimes I do prefer particular teams over other teams but I don’t give my preferences any favorable treatment. There have been some interesting match-ups and I think I will post some box scores here.

The 1928 Philadelphia Athletics were my defending Champion and I felt like they were a much better team than the 1995 Boston Red Sox.  In this particular game, the Red Sox started a CYZ pitcher against the A’s BZ.  To further disadvantage the BoSox, the A’s were a Fielding One and the Red Sox were a Fielding Three.  Basically, the A’s had better fielding and their pitcher should give up fewer hits.  Still, a 1-0 game by a C pitcher against a fairly powerful offense is rare indeed and a lot of fun to roll since a 66 could possibly undo that in a hurry.

I will continue to play games and post more frequently on the Delphi Forums in the group APBA Between the Lines.  I will post much less frequently on my various personal blogs.  If anyone has any questions or interest in the APBA game, post a comment or shoot me a question.

There's a fine line between visionary and wrong. Unfortunately, it takes a visionary to see it.
