1915 Philadelphia Athletics @ 1914 Philadelphia Athletics – May 5, 2023: Game 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — stevemryan @ 11:27 pm

The ’14 Athletics again scored early and often with Rube Bressler going nine and allowing one unearned run on five hits, two walks with ten Ks. Eddie Collins went three-for-four with two walks, three runs scored and two stolen bases to make up for one error. Eddie Murphy went three-for-three with two walks, four runs scored, and two runs batted in.

This game was the difference between Connie Mack fielding a team trying to win a 1910’s version of tanking. The A’s wouldn’t really be competitive for championships until the late 1920s. The 1914 Athletics will face the 1914 Cubs in the next round.
